How do I create an account?

Click on register on top right and choose you username and email address. An email with link to set up your password and finish the registration will be sent to the provided email address. This is to ensure that you are the owner of the email address.

If the email address provided during the registration matches your email address in the Saanich Tennis Club Membership List then your account will be automatically linked to your player profile. What does it mean? While anyone can create an account, not everyone is a Saanich Tennis Club member. However if you are, we recognize it (by the email) and you will be able to do much more when you log in (join the league, mark yourself injured etc.).

How is the draw for the next month made?

This is based on general principles described in Saanich Tennis Club Singles League (section League Groups). At the end of the month, final standings of all currently participating players is made according to following rules:

  1. First, players in the same group are sorted based on their results for the current month (i.e. points they earned in that group). Ties are broken by the group seed (order in the group at the beginning of the month).
  2. Then, for groups of 5 or more, last 2 players of each group are moved down into the next lower group (i.e. last 2 players from group A are moved into group B etc). For groups of 4 or less, only 1 player is moved down.
  3. Then the same is done with the first one or two players in each group (depending on group size) - they move up into the closest group above (i.e. from C do B, from B to A etc.).
  4. The players moved into the lower group will be seeded #1 and #2 and players moved into the higher group will be seeded last and one before last. This basically means that players moving down will swap places with player moving up. You can check this order by clicking on 'Players ranking' link above the group tables on the main page. It also shows what players moved up/down.
  5. Then, players joining/re-joining the league are inserted into the positions based on their latest ranking (if re-joining) or based on their skills (if joining).
  6. Then, players that marked themselves injured or on-vacation are removed from the list. This makes the final order of players that will be used for the next cycle.

This works great if all groups had same number of players and if players would not change between cycles. But this almost never happens.

Due to people leaving and joining/re-joining, it may happen that you end up in the same group that you won last month (because there are players re-joining that are ranked higher or due to changing number of players in groups above you) or that you are in the group with same players as in the previous month (again, this may be due to changing size of group above, people re-joining etc.). And, there is always a human factor - though there is absolutely no intention from a coordinator to place players into incorrect spots, it may happen that he/she made a mistake.

If you are unhappy with your placement or you think there has been an error made (or you are just wondering), please don't hesitate to contact the coordinator as soon as possible after the new draw has been made. The ideal situation is when everyone is happy. And you joined the league to enjoy your matches.
